Encounters with C. S. Lewis

C. S. Lewis is probably the best known Christian writer and apologist of the 20th century. (An apologist is not someone who is apologizing for his beliefs; it is someone who makes a logical, deep argument for his beliefs.)  Among his writings are the Narnia series, Mere Christianity, Surprised by Joy, and The Problem of Pain.

A book that is a compilation of some of his writings you might enjoy and that might be instructive during this difficult time is The Joyful Christian. And a book for Easter is Preparing for Easter.

A way to get into his writings is to watch some movies and documentaries about him. A recommended sequence of these, all available on Amazon Prime, is

  1. Narnia’s Lost Poet– a video biography
  2. The Reluctant Convert– an amazing one person play, with Max McLean
  3. Affectionately Yours, Screwtape– a documentary on Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters
  4. Shadowlands– a movie about the relationship between Lewis and Joy Gresham; be prepared to get emotional

For access to his books and writings you can go to Amazon or to the Official C. S. Lewis website: https://www.cslewis.com/us  Click on the blog in their menubar, or go directly to it here:  https://www.cslewis.com/blog/ to sample his writings within the context of particular topics.  The Preparing for Easter book is currently being discussed.
